I am an art historian writing an academic book on the role of smell in art and visual culture c.1880-1914.
I lecture and teach on nineteenth-century art history.
This blog is named after the book that I am currently writing. As I start to add more material, I hope that it will become a mix of information relating to my own research progress, responses to academic material and more personal thoughts reflecting the life of an academic. Its an opportunity for me to process thoughts, log my learning and progress in various areas of my life (including the publication of my book, career and personal development) and hone my skills in reviewing and thinking analytically. Often I will be writing about ideas or areas of art that are entirely new to me and well beyond my specialist research area. In the main, these will be fairly rough and ready thoughts, observations and summaries rather than anything close to polished articles, due to the fact that I have a book to write! Hope you enjoy this and feel free to add any comments.
